Con Policies

The Georgetown County Library System and ShushCon Convention Committee are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and harassment-free convention experience for all attendees regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, body size, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, political background, or fandom.

We do not tolerate harassment of attendees in any form. This includes, but is not limited to: physical assault, verbal harassment, sexual harassment, stalking, unwanted physical contact, or unwanted advances. In addition, engaging in any photography where the subject feels they are being stalked, exploited, degraded, or disrespected is also strictly prohibited.

Because the library and convention are in a public space it is reasonable that photographers will be photographing costumers, events, and other parts of the convention, should this photography become harassing or sexual in nature, offending photographers may be required to surrender media containing inappropriate images and are subject to removal from the event space as well as possible prohibition from attending future ShushCon related events.

As a reminder

Applicable laws related to Sexual Harassment, Criminal Harassment and Sexual Assault, as well as standards of normally acceptable behavior apply inside all library and ShushCon related events just as they do anywhere else. Therefore, actions which break these laws will be referred to the police and may result in a criminal charge. Incidents with blatantly sexual speech, acts, simulated acts and/or inappropriate touching or any other actions undertaken by any Attendee which in the sole determination of ShushCon Committee members and Library Staff detract from the overall experience of other attendees at the event may also result in your removal from the event.

If you experience an act of harassment, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns related to attendees experience at any ShushCon related event please: 1. immediately notify the nearest available Library Staff member or ShushCon volunteer of the situation; or 2. if you cannot find a staff or committee member to assist you, please go directly to the Circulation Desk located by the main security gate in the Waccamaw Branch Library.

ShushCon Convention Committee and the Waccamaw Neck Branch Library Staff reserve the right to reject any costume at any time and for any reason. For the avoidance of doubt, the absence of clothing or a costume is not itself a costume and nudity is not allowed at any ShushCon related events. All costumed attendees are required to have opaque fabric of some type covering the appropriate areas of the body; opaque bodysuits that simulate nudity are not allowed. Anyone wearing a costume that is too revealing in the sole judgment of the ShushCon Convention Committee or the Library Staff will be asked to leave the Event.

ShushCon would like to thank FanExpo Canada for providing such an excellent example of harassment and costume policies. If you’ve read theirs this may look familiar.
